Oma

Mothers are amazing...
and I am NOT just saying that.. cuz I AM one ... really...
don't smirk...
I MEAN IT...
at least my mother is in the "amazing" catagory..
she taught me so much
from my toddling years,
and how to swim,
to how to dream big,
love hard,
to BE faithful
that marriage is forever
and to be my man's best friend..
how to BE a friend,
and more important..
how to BE family...
through thick and thin..
My mother taught often with words
stories
but all too often,
by EXAMPLE
My mother also taught me wonderful practical things..
like HOW to knit
to crochet
to sew
to discern
to teach
to cook
to bake a cake from scratch
to make fabulous soups
how
to fish,
observe nature on wonder filled walks
in fact she taught
to walk everywhere you CAN,
as often as you can
she taught me how to play cards
and how to read
not just books... but people
to open the windows of the house daily,
fresh air is the best air
and breath it in, soak it up,
my mother ...
simply amazing

Her smile LIT up the room..
and we will miss it always..
yes..
the battle for cancer..
so long it was
it finally beseiged her.
and it won
But really...
she won..
She lived so much longer than the "experts" ever dreamed..
guess they didn't take mom's "dream big" class
she fought harder than they knew one could...
guess they didn't know what they'd get when
God put together a positive attitude,
a super strong will to live
a love for LIFE and Family
into a beautiful Lady from Berlin
The princess and I learned our love of the "Birkenstock" from Mom...
and we walked many many places with Oma
but
now...
we will walk on alone
missing her... in a million places... countless spaces

like footprints in the sand
she has left such a mark
on our hearts
we will press on...
it's exactly what she'd want..
can I just tell you.. how HARD that is?
to keep going when your heart is breaking
to carry on
when a love has passed on..
yet it is what we are simply to do...
she'd not want it any other way...
we must press on
living the legacy she left for us...
good food
fabulous family
wonderful friends
beauty
everywhere you can find it
put anywhere you can add it
a simpler life
***
missing my mother
our much beloved
Oma
and trusting...
we will meet again

Praying for you as you become the lead woman in your family. How great to carry on such a legacy, what large berkenstocks to fill. You will do it beautifully because God made you that way. Grace and Peace.
