For the Church tradition holds that Advent begins the fourth Sunday prior to Christmas. For many cultures it is celebrated starting the 1st of December. Some Celebrate Advent all the way to the 25th, while for others the celebration seizes on the 24th.
One thing important to know about Advent is that it means "coming"and it is to remind us of the Coming of Christ, and the Candles associated with it are to be lito remind us that Christ came into the World of Darkness.... well more of that later...
hence the darkness....
Part of the fun of "americana" tradition is the concept of town parades... and not to be forgotten is the thanksgiving day parade!! Well our town does not have their parade on Thanksgiving but rather a big Parade is held the Friday after, each and every year. In the Parade are floats and troups and groups and bands and all sorts of folks coming out with candy and costumes to show their stuff and support the community! At the end of the Parade there is Jolly old St. Nicholas (aka... Santa Claus) the unofficial representative for the Christian Faith ( who does not represent us well, and yes we could go on and on and on about this but... we won't), so, here comes Santa Claus Here comes Santa Claus right Down Santa Claus lane (or in our case Williams Street) and he and the Mrs. light the Town's Christmas tree ! how exciting... Well this year, our family braved the freezing temperatures to see our eldest offspring, young Prince Caspian, proudly carry the American Flag to lead the Winter/Christmas Parade through our Town... He along with two other scouts were the "leaders" with only the police dept and fire dept to guide them, it was most exciting!!! Here is Buddy visiting with Frosty the Snowman... Buddy was so impressed that Frosty could make it considering there was NO SNOW IN TOWN... it was the topic of conversation for days and days....
