this is that spooky scary time of year.. ghosts gobblins hanging from your neighbors tree.... leaves falling, wind blowing, all too creepy jack-o-lanterns lit up on front porches... It is the season of the Pagan Holiday HALLOWEEN...
Pagan Holiday.. well yah.. let's be truthfull...it is... and the little kiddies look sweet dressed up, and the candie corn sure is yummy and all.. but it is what it is.. We can't pretend it's anything but....
It's sort of creepy... It's all about skeletons, and death... Horror and witchcraft... Fright and dying... Leaving you hollow, as you see the mockering of death, the fake tombstones, and fake dead people hanging from trees....
It's all a little odd the "adult" fascination with this holiday... as kiddies we liked the day, we liked the treats... even doing a few tricks on the grumpy neighbors (the old standby of ding-dong-ditch)... but today, it's adults who are obsessed with this day... Adults having oodles of "dress up parties" and what not.. And that is all fine .. I suppose.. I think it is just wierd...
The national obsession... with this holiday of death.. perhaps because I am spending my time with my mother. My mother who loves life, loves sunshine, and children, and laughter... My mother who is now laboring to simply breathe in the I.C.U. at the local hospital... My mother.. the most darling grandmother, known as Oma to little blessings... who run to her, talk of her, draw pretty pictures for her, and want to hear her stories endlessly... Blessings who are scared and confused at how hard it is for her to just say "i love you".... Blessings who drive home looking at spooky houses... embracing this death, they are trying to PRAY away... pushing with all their might...
It's a scary adventure we are on right now... Hoping the 31st of October brings great Reformation in hearts and in health for my mother... Because.... my fellow Christians... it isn't just Halloween... It IS the day of Reformation...It is the day Martin Luther walked up and just brashly hammered his thesis upon the door of the church... saying.. HEY something's just got to change.....
remembering LUTHER... and embracing life, breath, love, and sunshine... because I was saved by Grace...
to God be the glory..........
may my mother be saved...
may my children's fear be put to ease...
November come with its month of THANKSGIVING...
thanks be to GOD....
