Carry on Mr. Bowditch! Here we come!

ON the ship!

a view from the dock

very neat old building :)

Carry on Mr. Bowditch is one of this families favorite books! What an adventure, what a life! Nathanial Bowditch is just wonderful. What a neat person, what a bright star in the history of this great nation. We enjoyed this book so much that dispite the darkness and witchcraft of Salem, we were bound and determined to see the city Nat came from.

Here is Caspian outside of the National Park building waiting to go aboard the ship "friendship". It is a replica of a boat called "friendship". It is much like the boat Nat would have been on, and in fact, the tour guide spoke much about Mr. Bowditch!

I don't know why I couldn't get this photo to flip, just turn your head to the right and you will see our eldest at the helm!

Here is our youngest sailor, at the helm!

Princess KI loved the pretty homes that make up the town of Salem.

Here is our tour guide Marty, as we are aboard "Friendship". WE were the ONLY folks who signed up for this tour, so it was VERY detailed, VERY personalized, and very informative! Thanks Marty!

Ben is looking out the window as many a Captain has done before him.

Here is our princess, hearing all about how smelly and disgusting it was to live on a ship. She is so interested in the exact symptoms of scurvy, and what hygiene issues there were. She is sorely disappointed in the sanitation of the ship.

Full of ice and snow, what a view! Salem is very pretty from the water. It unfortunately was very tarnished by the 9 months of the "Salem Witch Trials". The injustice of the poorly run trials, the "hysteria" of it all is continuing on until this day. A sea port, a city for hundreds of years, and all it wants to remember of it self, is 9 terrible months. It profits off these 9 months, and markets it's dark religion till you long for fresh air, and so we were off to have supper and plan Sundays excursion!
