Big White Elephants.....

Big ol' White Elephants,

many meanings may follow the "white elephant" from Buddhist icons, to the famed description of the "unspoken issue that is not being dealt with", to the silly gift passed at some office Christmas parties.

Imagine yourself in a room full of people. They are well dressed, intelligent people who are mingling. Many dear friends of yours. In fact it may be even be quite the gathering. Music is in the background, it's Hayden you think, it's lovely music... There are candles lit and it is all lovely. Yet in the corner of the room, there it is. It is shocking and smelly, and most distracting to you...It is a big white elephant.

Your surprised that no one else has noticed, you linger in conversations and even ask the Hostess about the lovely piece of art on her wall, the one behind the elephant, ....And you are careful not to mention the elephant, and so is she. You begin to wonder if she sees the elephant. Could she be daft? Could you be daft? You sink into yourself, and wonder well, could you be imagining It? Your dearest friends do not appear to see the elephant....Just you....Only you....

Not wanting to deal with your fear of possibly being utterly batty, you pretend it isn't there too. Yet as the clock ticks, you try to chat with the Host, the lady in the sequin dress, the gentleman who forgot to wear a tie, no one sees this enormous white elephant. You certainly don't want to seem odd, or speak of it for the fear that maybe you are going insane and hallucinating.... So you let it go. Join the pretending and the elephant grows. The stench too...

The elephant than breeds, out come more elephants, it's like Fantasia ...It seems ignoring it empowers it.

Sometimes life's issues can be like those big white elephants. This week I was priveleged to go on SAFARI and hunt the white elephants. There were quite a few. And while it was hard work, humbling work, even embarrassing work, with shovels in hand (for the stench came from YOU KNOW WHAT), and muskets in hand I went shooting with my sister Saralyn. In Christ Jesus, in His strength, we think we got them all. We cleared the rooms of the home of our friendship, and shoveled out some ick. Opened the windows and fresh air is blowing through the rooms of our home of friendship. At the end of it, we felt remarkably younger, about hmmm jr. high age. (ha ha ha)
God is so good, so faithful, and so quick to equip us with His word, for just such elephant hunts...Do you need to go on a hunt for a big elephant?
Grab your musket and your shovel....Have no fear, You can do all things in Christ Jesus. who strengthens...
(p.s. the musket is the Word of God, the shovel is PRAYER and HUMILITY)
Just remember, to only shoot at the elephant, not at your friend. Happy hunting!
You are loved
