He warned us...
He said she was holding on by a thread...
clinging together, held by words, and notes...
only sheets really... nothing at all...
paper thin....
He warned us...
"If you move her.."
he said
"She'll just... fall apart..
I've done... all that I can"
he said
"her time is nearing the end....
there's no need to call me again to come out..."
That was years ago...
We've nutured her along... babied her all the way
We just stood there...
looking at him..
But when we'd brought her home..
We thought she'd seemed so..
healthy...
sure we knew she was no ...
spring chicken...
wasn't built yesterday...
but... How could it be..
how could the end ... be near?
Another check up would be a waste of funds
he explained..
a waste of time..
enjoy her while you've got her..
learn all you can from her..
let her get every last note out...
and then ...
let her go...
Well... we moved her..
we moved her because we had too...
We had to when the floors were put in..
And her bottom dropped..
She's dying fast now...
The end has come quick...
The goodbye's are being sang...
they all sound soo sad.
Our piano is going..
We are mourning the loss of her century of song...
her part in history.....
in culture as one of Chicago's "player piano's"
wondering about those "holes" and if they..
are from gunshots.. and Al Capone...
We love her, from Mahogony color
to her tall upright frame...
held up with Agatha Christie novels...
We are saying our last goodbyes....
It is the day... the music died...
